If you are taking your NCLEX-RN for the first time, the NCLEX-RN pass rate for 2015 for US-trained nurses was very high. The majority pass on their first attempt. Read on to find out more.

NCLEX-RN Pass Rate for US-trained Nurses

Of the 157,882 people who took the exam in 2015, 84.53% passed on their first attempt, according to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) statistics.

They break it down even further for those who are graduating from Diploma, Associates, or Bachelors programs. For those who took the NCLEX-RN for the second time in 2015, the total pass rate was 44.52%.

For anyone who is taking the NCLEX-RN for the second time, they should definitely focus on what their weaknesses were from their first attempt. Then you should determine if you need to review more content or practice with more NCLEX style resources.

NCLEX-RN Pass Rate for Internationally-Trained Nurses

Many nurses from other countries take the NCLEX each year in order to become an RN in the US. These nurses must hold a nursing degree from their country of origin. If they are coming from a country where English is not the native language, then they must also pass an English proficiency exam.

Unfortunately, the NCLEX-RN pass rate for foreign-trained nurses is not as high as US-trained nurses. In 2015, 8,641 foreign-trained nurses took the exam and only 31.67% passed on their first attempt and that rate goes down for the second attempt, according to the statistics.

For a foreign nurse, the statistics can be a little daunting and intimidating. Knowing that it can be more challenging to pass the exam as a foreign-trained nurse, it is best to prepare yourself with NCLEX-RN prep courses and ensure that you have strong English skills for a professional medical career in the United States.

Between review books and courses, there are so many resources to help you study for and pass the NCLEX-RN exam. There are also free resources on the internet that can help supplement your studying. Know how you learn best and use all the resources that you can to study for your NCLEX. Putting in the time and effort will pay off when you have passed your exam.
