When you are going to take your NCLEX-RN exam, it is imperative that you be confident. You need to believe that you are capable of succeeding and becoming a registered nurse. Your mind is very powerful and can have a positive effect on your results if you truly believe you are well prepared.
Gain Confidence by being Prepared
You must create a study plan and stick with it. Studying will help prepare you for your exam. Those who feel that they have properly prepared for the exam obviously will do better. Determine how long it will take you to prepare, how you best learn materials and when and where you prefer to take your NCLEX-RN exam. If you feel overwhelmed or unprepared, consider postponing your NCLEX-RN date.
There are many ways to prepare, such as online resources, books, review courses, group study sessions and practice questions. Throughout nursing school, you have learned which study tools work best for you and you should focus on using them. There is no one perfect method for preparing for the NCLEX-RN exam so try a few and see which works best for you.
I always preferred to study on my own, highlighting key points, and completing numerous practice questions. Some of my friends preferred group study sessions and attending review courses. Be open to trying different techniques and focus on those which you feel are the most helpful.
Block out Negative Thoughts
Negative thoughts can be very detrimental to your mental state. When you enter the testing room, you only want to be thinking about passing the NCLEX-RN exam. Try to avoid people who only have negative things to say about standardized tests, as most of the time, they are exaggerating the truth and their input will not be of assistance. I took my NCLEX-RN exam as soon as possible so that I could avoid hearing my fellow students’ personal accounts. It allowed me to stay focused on my own personal success without listening to others, especially while they were waiting for several weeks for their results.
Stay Focused on Your Goal
Once you have determined how you plan to prepare for the exam, stay focused on your goal. If you miss a study session or don’t meet your weekly goal of questions to complete, relax, take a deep breath, and jump right back in. If you need a break, take one to avoid burnout. The day before your NCLEX-RN test, try and relax insteading of cramming your brain with endless materials.
If you remain focused on becoming a registered nurse, you will be more driven to succeed. Picture yourself caring for patients and making a difference. Plan to reward yourself when you do succeed for you have certainly earned it.
