NCLEX-RN Test Dates

NCLEX-RN Test Dates

So you have completed all the nursing school requirements and you are ready to take your NCLEX-RN exam. Now is the time to learn when test dates are available.

Obtain Authorization to Test

Once you have completed nursing school, you will need to apply through the Board of Nursing in your state to obtain authorization to take the NCLEX-RN exam. Each state has specific requirements which must be completed prior to authorization being released. You should review you state requirements and the associated costs in advance so that you are properly prepared and can avoid any unnecessary delays.

When you receive your authorization to test (ATT), review the testing window, which is typically 90 days. This period can not be extended and failure to test during this window will require you to apply for a new ATT and pay the testing fees again. You are now ready to locate a testing center and schedule your NCLEX-RN exam. There are many testing sites available, you can search by location and find the one that is most convenient for you. Remember to consider the required travel time and accessibility of the testing center when you are choosing, you don’t want any extra avoidable stress added to you on testing day.

Booking NCLEX-RN Test Time

You are now ready to schedule your exam through Pearson Vue. Consider when you are most attentive and comfortable testing. Are you a morning person or do you function better in the afternoon? Will waiting for a later time cause you more anxiety? You know yourself the best and should plan your testing time accordingly. For me, I preferred the first available date and the earliest time which allowed me to stay focused and complete the exam before my peers started sharing their own personal stories. I was able to wake up, drive to the location, review my essential note cards one time, have a small snack and then test and be done before lunch. This was ideal for me, but consider what will work best for you.

Since there are numerous test locations, you will likely be able to find a time and location that works best for you. Typically, as a first time NCLEX-RN exam taker, you are usually ensured a test date within 30 days and repeat takers are usually guaranteed a test date within 45 days. This may not take into account your desired test location, date or time preference, but flexibility will provide you with the most options.

Changing NCLEX-RN Test Date

So, you scheduled your exam but you were not able to get your desired test location or time. Don’t panic. You can change your testing time and location, but be sure to do this at least 24 hours prior to your assigned testing time and within the time frame of your ATT or you will be required to reapply and pay the testing fee again.

Once you have scheduled you NCLEX-RN exam, it is time to stay focused and study according to your preparation plan. Being prepared will increase your confidence and success on the NCLEX-RN exam.
